Lecture:
TOPIC: THE ROLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THE
MINISTRY OF JOHN THE BAPTIST.
TEXT: Man 4:4-6, 3:1, Isaiah 40:3, Matt 3:1-end.
JOHN THE BAPTIST AND THE HOLY SPIRIT IN HIS MINISTRY: - if John the
Baptist is to be here in our days as a minister, it would surely be so hard for
multitude to believe in Him. why? John the Baptist wrought not a physical signs
and wonders which this generation crave at. He never performed any miracle,
never seen vision on people's problems or that of the nation, he has only one
prophecy in his mouth, that is prepare you the way of the Lord. There is
nothing to show that he has the great power of the holy spirit. Yet our Lord
said that John the Baptist is the greatest of all prophets born of a woman.
Matt 11:11, Lk 7:27-28. Now let’s study the key Characters in the Topic:
1. John the Baptist
2. The Holy Spirit.
3. His ministry.
1) JOHN THE BAPTIST: - He was born of a parent that serves Yahweh
according to the order of Aaron, that is Judaism. His father was a priest in
his days. Both parents were born into the linage of priesthood. (birds of a
feather) Lk1:5-7. The Bible says that they were righteous but without Child.
Theirs is an example of marriage that endure shame and many hard times, yet
they waited upon the Lord. In the course of Zechariah ministering before the
Lord, then an Angel came visiting, who came to proclaim to the man that a child
that will prepare the way before the coming of the saviour is coming through
them. There comes the fulfilment of a prophecy in the book of Isaiah 40:3.
"You shall have a Child" Lk 1:13. Sounds like a prophecy at that moment
but the immediacy in the fulfilment shows that the coming of JOHN the Baptist
is the beginning of the fulfilment of the coming of the Messiah. Isaiah 40. So
John is a revelation in the fulfilment of prophecy about the salvation of
mankind and there has never been a revelation without the Holy Spirit. My
1:6-7. The man John the Baptist never eat, dine, wore Clothes as a noble man nor
live like extravagantly like people of his days. He lived his life according to
the message that cannot be separated from his life. He revealed the identity of
the saviour to the world, "Behold the lamb of God"
John 1:29. All this was done because he was empowered by the Holy Spirit.
Now let's take some lessons out of the Life of JOHN the Baptist.
1) He lives in the jungle; he never pursued modernisation.
2) He never announce himself either as a prophet or an important one.
3) He attached no importance to himself but the message. John 1:19-29.
4) He was a very bold man. Lk 3:7-20.
5) He shut himself off from the world around him. No worldliness.
6) Focus, nothing diverted his attention.
THE HOLY SPIRIT WORKING IN JOHN THE BAPTIST.
God from The beginning has been endowing His servants with power to
carry out every task given to them, John the Baptist was no exception. Having
said it from the beginning of this lecture that He(John) was born into a family
that was righteous and faithful before God in their priesthood office. John the
Baptist was filled with the holy spirit from the womb. He jumped for joy in the
womb when Elizabeth his mother heard the voice of Mary the mother of the
saviour Lk 1:39-45. With the numerous dangers in the jungle in his days he was
able to leave unhurt in the jungle until the day of his revelation to Israel.
The Holy Spirit in him gave him the revelation of the Messiah when he saw him
John 1:29-42.
Now let's take this lessons about the Holy Spirit in his life.
1. Though John and Jesus Christ were related, John has to wait on
revelations from the Holy Spirit to know Him as the Messiah.
2. The Holy Spirit gave him a sign to recognize the Messiah.
3. The Holy Spirit help him to see his portion of the ministry. John
1:19-28.
4. With the help of the Holy Spirit he was able to give a vivid details
of whom the Messiah will be and do.
5. He delivered his messages pinpoint the sins of everyone that came to
him for baptism.
6. The only thing kept away from him is the details about his own
travails.
JOHN THE BAPTIST; HIS MINISTRY.
He might not have signs and wonders plus whatever is expected to attract
crowd to a minister in his own ministry, yet the Holy Spirit use the ministry
of John the Baptist in the following ways.
1. He worked as the fore Runner to our Lord.
2. He baptised they that are ready to repent of their sins.
3. He gave answer to every question about the Messiah.
4. He pointed many to Christ including his disciples. John 1:35-37.
5. Gave instructions on what to do as regards the will of God. Matt
3:10-14.
6. He declared it that Jesus Christ is greater than Him, and that the
Lord must increase while he decreases.
THE BACKSLIDING OF JOHN THE BAPTIST. Lk
7:17-28.
The Holy Spirit is visible in his work in the ministry of John the
Baptist, he was able to prepare the way for the coming of the Messiah. Yet he
asks a question during his trier and travail that shows he wasn’t prepare to
die for the course at all cost. Unlike the three Hebrews who had make up their
mind to die for the God whom they believe. Can we also learn from the Apostles
and other disciples (e.g. Stephen and Paul) that lay down their live for the
Gospel? Acts7, 21:4,8-16. We must be ready to suffer anything for the name of
the Lord if we truly claim we believe Him and accept him as Lord and saviour.
Rev 12:11, Lk 14:26.
WHAT WE MUST KNOW AND LEARN.
- We must accept Christ in life and death.
- Genuine Christianity is not rosy.
- Fight sin and resisted it unto blood. Heb. 12:4
- Walk in the spirit always gal 5:17.
- Know that prosperity preachers are preaching fake Gospel.
- Strife to know the mind of God in every situation before you act. Phil 3:10
- Be faithful and focus in what you must do for God.
The life of John the Baptist is full of lessons for he was a good
example of a man filled with the holy spirit from the womb yet disappointment
sets in when he faces death. Know these brethren that the devil is after us
always and that is why we must stand firm. Eph 6;10-18.
Lecture : TOPIC: THE ROLE OF HOLY SPIRIT IN THE
MINISTRY OF JESUS CHRIST.
TEXT: MATT 3:10-17, LK
4:1-30, JOHN 1:33-34.
INTRO: In the beginning in
the book of Genesis 1 we learn how the WORD and The HOLY SPIRIT, work hand in
hand to bring forth the work of creation, while in John 1 we are clearly
enlightened that Jesus Christ is the WORD of God. The spirit of God is whom the
Holy Spirit is. He is the power of God unto all great works. When Jesus Christ
was baptized of john in Jordan the Holy Spirit descend on Him in no measure.
The work and walk of our Lord in His earthly ministry was done through the Holy
Spirit. In fact, there is no how we can separate the work of the Holy Spirit in
the work of salvation? Never can it be done.
JESUS CHRIST AND THE HOLY SPIRIT IN HIS DAYS IN THE
FLESH.
1. Jesus was born through the Holy spirit. Lk 1:35. The canal man was
born by the matting of a man and woman but our Lord was formed in the womb of
marry through the eternal Spirit working in her. Every believer is begotten of
God through regeneration, but our Lord was begotten of God in the original
nature of God. All believers have both canal nature and the nature of God but
our Lord is formed into the perfect nature of God in man having a human mother.
That is why He was called the only begotten son of God in John 3:16.
2. He Led a holy and spotless
life through the working of the Holy spirit. Heb 10:14, Jesus Christ met and
was tempted as men may meet and be tempted. Heb 10:15-18. He offered himself
unto God having led a spotless life.
3. Jesus Christ was anointed, fitted for service by the Holy spirit. We
read in Act 10:38 how God Anointed Jesus of Nazareth with Holy ghost and power
who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for
God was with Him. ." In a
prophetic vision of the coming Messiah in the Old Testament we read in Isa. 61:1,
"The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the LORD hath
anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; He hath sent me to bind up
the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the
prison to them that are bound." In Luke's record of the earthly life of our
Lord in Luke 4:14, we read "And Jesus returned in the power of the
Spirit into Galilee, and there went out a fame of Him through all the
region round about." In a similar way Jesus said of Himself when speaking
in the synagogue in Nazareth, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
because He hath anointed Me to preach good tidings unto the poor; He hath sent
Me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty them that are bruised, to proclaim the acceptable year of the
Lord" (Luke 4:18, 19). All these passages contain the one lesson, that it
was by the especial anointing with the Holy Spirit that Jesus Christ was
qualified for the service to which God had called Him. As He stood in the
Jordan after His baptism, "The Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like
a dove upon Him," and it was then and there that He was anointed with the
Holy Spirit, baptized with the Holy Spirit, and equipped for the service that
lay before Him. Jesus Christ received His equipment for service in the baptism
of Holy spirit at Jordan.
4. Jesus Christ was led by the Holy Spirit in
His movements here upon earth. We read in Luke 4:1 "And Jesus full of
the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the
wilderness." Living as a man here upon earth and setting an example for
us, each step of His life was under the Holy Spirit's guidance.
5. Jesus Christ was taught by the Spirit who rested upon Him. The
Spirit of God was the source of His wisdom in the days of His flesh. In the Old Testament prophecy of the coming Messiah we read in Isa.
11:2, 3, "And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him,
the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the
spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD. And shall make Him of quick
understanding in the fear of the LORD: and He shall not judge after the sight
of His eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of His ears." Further on in
Isa. 42:1, we read, "Behold My servant, whom I uphold; My chosen in whom
My soul delighteth; I have put My Spirit upon Him; He shall bring forth
judgment to the Gentiles, etc." Matthew tells us in Matt. 12:17, 18, that
this prophecy was fulfilled in Jesus of Nazareth.
6. The Holy Spirit abode upon Jesus in
all His fullness and the words He spoke in consequence were the very words of
God.
We read in John 3:34, "For He Whom God hath sent speaketh the words of
God: for He giveth not the Spirit by measure."
7. After His resurrection, Jesus Christ
gave commandment unto His Apostles whom He had chosen through the Holy Spirit. We read in Acts 1:2, "Until
the day in which He was taken up, after that He through the Holy Ghost had
given commandment unto the Apostles whom He had chosen." This relates
to the time after His resurrection and so we see Jesus still working in the
power of the Holy Spirit even after His resurrection from the dead.
8.
Jesus
Christ wrought His miracles here on earth in the power of the Holy Spirit. In Matt. 12:28, we read, "I
cast out devils by the power of the Spirit of God." It is through the
Spirit that miracle working power was given to some in the church after our
Lord's departure from this earth (1 Cor. 12:9, 10), and in the power of the
same Spirit, Jesus Christ wrought His miracles.
9.
9.
It was by the power of the Holy Spirit that Jesus Christ was raised from the
dead. We read in Rom. 8:11, "But if the Spirit of Him that raised
up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, He that raised up Christ from the dead
shall also quicken your mortal bodies by His Spirit that dwelleth in you."
10.
The
same Spirit who is to quicken our mortal bodies and is to raise us up in some
future day raised up Jesus.
11.
Several
things are plainly evident from this study of the work of the Holy Spirit in
Jesus Christ:
12.
First
of all, we see the completeness of His humanity. He lived and He thought, He
worked, He taught, He conquered sin and won victories for God in the power of
that very same Spirit whom it is our privilege also to have.
13.
In
the second place, we see our own utter dependence upon the Holy Spirit. If it
was in the power of the Holy Spirit that Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of
God, lived and worked, achieved and triumphed, how much more dependent are we
upon Him at every turn of life and in every phase of service and every
experience of conflict with Satan and sin.
14.
The
third thing that is evident is the wondrous world of privilege, blessing and
victory and conquest that is open to us. The same Spirit by which Jesus was
originally begotten, is at our disposal for us to be begotten again of Him. The
same Spirit by which Jesus offered Himself without spot to God is at our
disposal that we also may offer ourselves without spot to Him. The same Spirit
by which Jesus was anointed for service is at our disposal that we may be
anointed for service. The same Spirit who led Jesus Christ in His movements
here on earth is ready to lead us to-day. The same Spirit who taught Jesus and
imparted to Him wisdom and understanding, counsel and might, and knowledge and
the fear of the Lord is here to teach us. Jesus Christ is our pattern (1 John
2:6), "the first born among many brethren" (Rom. 8:29). Whatever He
realized through the Holy Spirit is for us to realize also to-day.
If
our Lord Jesus who is God that came in the flesh (Joh 10:30) “I and my Father
are one” does everything in the power of the Holy Spirit, then we have lessons
to learn.
1
we need to give our all.
2
Walk not in the flesh.
3
willing to please the father always.
4
put on the garment of obedience.
5
beware of this present evil world government.
6
Be prayerful always.
7
Holiness is the attitude of God we must possess.
8
Love and living a sacrificial life.
9
Desire the anointing every moment of our life
10
live our life according to the leading of the spirit.
11
striving to be like our master.
12
Fellowship with other brethren.
13
Make Jesus our Example in all things.
14
Live a faithful live
15
Discipline and self-denial.
WHY THE MOVE OF THE HOLY
SPIRIT IS RESTRICTED IN CHURCH TODAY.
Modernization: - God is not going to rewrite the Bible and man is willing to do
things according to the modern world events.
Luke-warmness:- We have many with this mind today, “wanting to please God and the
world at the same time”.
Coldness:- The love of many are waxing cold, this is an age when sin is other
of the day, for example lie on phone is seen in this generation as normal why
absolute truth is the watchword in the days of our fathers in faith matt 24:12.
Church planting with Evil
powers and covenant with the devil: - Rev 2:15. How
can they that drink from the cup of the devil expect the mighty moves of God.
Look at the many wickedness been perpetrated in the church in this generation.
Doctrinal
dispute in the Church; instead of gathering to seek the face of God many so
called men of God are there fighting over doctrines and other Church
activities.
Merchandising the gospel: - (John 2:13-17) It is clear in the Bible that the gospel of human
salvation is free and not for sale but many have made it a source for gathering
wealth today. It is no sin to be wealthy but to turn everything to money in the
name of the Lord is mammon. Matt 6:24. Money thrown on the alter while a
preacher is preaching is a questionable doctrine, so also the sales of item
like water, oil, perfume, handkerchief and other so called spiritual items are
example of merchandising the gospel which happen right in the Church today.
Lack of discipline in the
Church today 1Cor 5:1-13. Many are their own boss
in the Church today, doing what they think and reason out from their canal mind
and not according to the Bible. Some left the Church to start
Conclusion:
if there is a time to pray for revival or the move of the holy spirit in the
church, the time is now. We need the comforter to come and take His place in
the church. There must be a turn of events now that the comforter with be the
one leading the Church and not according to the carnality and evil doing which
is rampant today.
Lecture:
Impartation of Holy
Spirit and believer’s manifestation
Textual Source:
2Timothy.1:5-6
What is Impartation: it is to
give or share a particular quality, virtue or prestige with something. It is
also the transmission of information. It is to make something act in a stead at
a later time by first possesses its quality or ability. Impartation is when he
Holy Spirit shares from his virtues and abilities with a particular believer in
order to profit the kingdom of God.
What is manifestation: It is an
act of showing or demonstrating something. It is an indication that something
is present or real with you. It is a visible appearance form by a spiritual
being. It is visible form in which a divine being, idea or person believed to
be revealed or expressed. It is to appear visible in real sense. It is to
display up-to or better of what someone can do. It is to be able to act or
stand-in for someone. Believer’s manifestation is to be able to act like Jesus
by the auction of the Holy Ghost. Every believer in Christ Jesus is expected to
be able to manifest all the gifts of the Holy Spirit and the fruit of the
Spirit. Without impartation there could be no manifestation and when manifestation
is not needed, there is no reason for impartation. Manifestation is the demonstration
of what one has received from the Holy Spirit by fasting, praying, among
others.
Necessity for
impartation:
Let
us examine the importance of impartation in the life of believers:
1.
It produces a type of its kind
2.
It produces a super type of its kind
3.
It gives auction to function
4.
It enables sharing of anointing and auction
5.
It leads to effectiveness in Christian life
6.
It enables one to quickly overtake his
contemporary without delay
7.
It breaks yoke and curses
8.
It helps to have sure foundation
9.
it brings one out of its past
10.
It connects to a brighter and glorious future
11.
It helps manifesting
12.
It makes you fly were others are crawling
13.
It makes the power of God abide
14.
It makes you worry less. This would be done
when answer comes within your heart to most of your worries.
15.
Your supernatural knowledge and experience
would be deepened
16.
You become carrier of God’s power and anointing
even more than what you barging for
17.
It makes you more productive and proactive in
Christian race
18.
You’ll become spiritually endowed
19.
A total change of life style would be
experienced
20.
Your utterance makes a decree
21.
You’ll become a terror and target in the
kingdom of darkness.
22.
You’ll become a deliverer and mouth piece of
the most high God.
Necessity
for manifestation:
1.
It promotes one’s statues
2.
It makes you an icon and a figure of discussion
3.
It makes you attend to much responsibilities
4.
Authority and direction may likely be emanating
from you
5.
You’ll be welcomed among the princes,
princesses and crowned kings
Impartation and Apostle’s
manifestation
The
twelve Apostles walked with Jesus Christ until His ascension. Christ ministry was
believed to have lasted for three and a half years. He imparted power to His
disciples in John.20:22 and in Luke.24:45 that they may receive the Holy Ghost
and to have spiritual understanding. Christ knew the task ahead of the disciples,
that was why he sees it a necessity to make an impartation before His ascension.
When Christ imparted on His disciples, he created a vacuum in their lives where
the Holy Spirit could stay. On the day of Pentecost, it was so easy for all the
hundred and twenty in the upper room to receive the Holy Ghost. The cloven
tongue of fire activated what Christ had sowed in their lives and what Christ
had shared them from the auction He possesses. What Christ did for them before
the upper room experience was helpful to them. Those who struggle to have
Spiritual power mostly happens to be those who are not privileged to
mentorship. By mentorship and impartation, Elisha had double of what Elijah
has. Question. Can we say the Apostles had Jesus’ double anointing if John.14:12 is
strictly considered?
The
Holy Spirit Himself imparted on the Apostles on the day of Pentecost. The
experience which is better seen than been told or imagined. All the Apostles was
believed to have done well, including Paul the later Apostle. Peter who could
not expressed himself in the presence of a young lad for lack of shame and
shyness, was spotted with John creating a spectacular scene of miracle at the beautiful
entrance to the temple. Acts.3:1ff. If you count it a thing of necessity, you
need an impartation of the Holy Spirit in your life today; I mean now. The
Apostles became Apostle not by dressing or vocation but by impartation from
Jesus and from the Holy Ghost. If the Apostles deemed it fit to be imparted, it
means every Christian is expected to experience it. The Apostles would not have
made so much success if they were the one who struggled for the ministry without
a mentor and a comforter. What the Apostles received from both Christ and The
Holy Ghost became the reason for the manifestation of the Apostles despite the
ignorance of the people at that time to the saving knowledge of the gospel of
the Lord Jesus Christ.
Impartation for
manifestation: A tool for Christian living.
As
we have discussed earlier, every Christian needs impartation. If you are not
privileged to undergo a mentorship, well, it is very necessary to have a keen
move to Jesus by Holy spirit. There is no Christian that can displayed genuine
power of Holy Spirt and the gifts and fruits thereof without first having a
supernatural enchanter with the Lord. A Christian who cannot showcase from the
list of gift and fruit of the spirit, would not manifesting. I would advise you
to see today as the day you will have an encounter with the Holy Ghost for
impartation for manifestation. Everywhere Paul Apostle preaches, he makes sure
they were filled with the Holy Ghost before he leaves. It is what the Holy
Spirit imparts that last longer with you, not what you learn academically. Those
who received the preaching of the Apostles always receives impartation for
manifestation by ministering Holy Spirit to them. In everywhere the Apostles
does this, the Holy Spirit makes Himself and his power known. A Christian who
has never experience the impartation of the Holy Ghost in his/her life needs to
cry unto God now before it’s too late.
Manifestation of
believers after impartation of The Holy Ghost:
Impartation
can come in many ways. It includes:
1.
By laying on of hand. 2Tim.1:6; 1Tim.4:14;
Act.19:6, Lk.4:40
2.
By wearing mentor’s cloth or apron. 1Kg.19:19; 2Kg.2:14
3.
By breathing on someone’s head by a mentor or a
spiritual elder. Jh.20:22
4.
By opening one’s understanding. Lk.24:45
5.
By rigorous reading of the scripture. Acts.8:26-39
6.
By having a divine encounter with the Lord
Jesus himself.
7.
By praying for and receiving the Holy Spirit.
Acts.2:1ff
Note: If
you will manifest as Christian, you need an encounter with the Holy Spirit
without delay.
There
is no how a spirit filled Christian, genuinely born again will not manifest
after which he had experience impartation of the Holy Spirt, either by man {a
spirit filled person} or by God through the Holy Ghost. If you need
manifestation in your life, first seek after the impartation of the Holy Spirit.
My prayer for you is that, heaven of power shall be open unto you today in the
name of Jesus. Impartation that would make you manifest; you will experience it
today in the name of Jesus.
Conclusion:
here is where you will wait until the
promise of the Father is fulfilled in your life. Get ready. Get connected. It
is your turn to acquire spiritual gift and fruits that would make you manifest.
Shalom!
Lecture: The
Holy Spirit and the Apostles
The Apostles were the few people that
were called by the Lord Jesus to follow Him. They were first called disciples
which means followers. To follow means to be committed to learning the way,
teaching, life styles, ideas, principles, believes and method of a master and
to imbibe it so much that the mind-set [thinking] actions and re-actions of the
follower will be exactly like the master. Lk.6:40, Act.4:13. When the Lord
Jesus called them, the purpose was to make them disciples then later turn them
to Apostles. Mk.3:14. Though, it is a sanding situation today that we have many
Apostles that are far greater than the first Apostles chosen by the Lord, but
their mind-sets actions and re-actions shows that they were never disciple.
They carry bogus tittle like senior, most senior, Arch and most eminence
Apostles far greater than that of the first Apostles; but lack the endurance,
holiness, power and authority of the Spirit.
This first Apostles were ordinary
men, though, they had learnt so many things from the Lord, yet they were
lacking in power to sustain and establish what they had learnt. They were men,
saddled with weaknesses that Jesus had to seek them out. Jh.20:24-25; 21:1-4.
Though, they’ve learnt so many things
as a disciple but Zach.4:6, concluded it way ‘Not by might nor by power, but by
my spirit, says the Lord of host’. And so, the Lord Jesus commanded them to
tarry in Jerusalem until they were clothed with power from on high. Lk.25:49.
I want us to note that these men were
either called disciples, twelve or eleven until the time that Jesus said to
them ‘go’ Mat.28:16-19, Mk.16:14-15. The word ‘go’ was their commissioning word
which conferred on them their Apostolic office. But, Apostolic office without
Apostolic power is mere honorary tittle “for the kingdom of God does not
consist in talk but in power” 1Cor.4:20. However, when we got to the fifth book
of the new testament. It was referred to as the ‘Acts of the Apostles’. As they
waited by the command of the Lord at the upper room in the temple, the Holy
Spirit came upon them on the day of Pentecost. Acts.2:1-4. From that day, the
ordinary became extra-ordinary, the natural became supernatural. We can imagine
the terrific transformation in the life of the Apostles as we read through the
book of the Acts of the Apostles. The change was drastic; the fearful became
bold, the doubtful and faithless were full of undoubted faith, the denial of
the master became the bold witness of the master he had once denied. Powerful
were they by the Holy spirit that they were accused of turning the world upside
down. Acts.17:6. (actually, they turned the world right-side up from idolatry
to the living God).
The Apostles were so filled with the
Holy Spirit that they lived beyond natural; shadow of the Peter healed the
sick, face of Stephen shone like that of an Angel. Acts.6:15, Philip by the
Holy Spirit disappeared and reappeared somewhere else. 8:39-40; apron from Paul
was healing the sick. 19:11-12.
The secret
of the Apostles
The Holy Spirit was the powerful
unseen behind the ministry of the Apostles.
Secrets of
the Apostolic power
1.
Waiting on the Lord for infilling of the Holy Spirit.
Acts.1:14
2.
The conscious recognition of the person of the Holy Spirit.
Acts.5:32; 2Cor.3:5-6
3.
Consciously partnering or cooperating with the Holy Spirit.
Acts.13:2; 1Cor.1:9, 2Cor.13:14
4.
Living a life totally surrendered to the leading of the Holy
Spirit. Act.13:4, 16:7; 8:29
5.
Living a life of prompt obedience to the Holy Spirit.
Act.10:19-21
6.
Living a selfless life of service to God. 2Cor.4:16-18
7.
Constant fellowship with one another. Acts.4:32-33
Lecture: Baptism of the Holy Spirit
Acts. 1:5, ‘For John baptize with
water, but you will be baptized with the Holy spirit not many days from now.’
Baptism is immersion in the water as
a sign of repentance from dead works. This was preached and performed by John
the Baptist. It is also an acceptance into the church (the body of Christ).
However, this did not finish the work of salvation or rather it is not all that
God has us. John said; ‘I baptize you with water for repentance, he who is
coming after me is mightier than I; whose sandal I am not worthy to carry. He
will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.’ Mat.3:1 which in another word
can be said ‘I am stating out the work with baptism for repentance from dead
but Jesus will perfect it by baptizing you with Spirit to enable you live
pleasing to God and victorious. Nobody could successfully serve God or live for
God without the help of the Holy Spirit, and we are all called to serve in one
capacity or the other, a kingdom of priests in the church. 1Pet.2:9.
The Holy Spirit is the one who makes everything we do
acceptable and pleasing to God,
Mal.3:2-4. There is no way a man will take yam and meat and eat it raw. But
will need fire to roast, boil or cook it to make it pleasing and acceptable.
When we got born again, we received a measure of the Spirit of God at birth as:
1. An adoption into son ship. Rom.8:15-17
2. A guarantee 2Cor.1:22, 5:5, Eph.1:13-14
Jesus Christ was born through the
conception by the Holy Spirit as a son of God. Lk.1:35. But, when we came to
Lk.3:22-23, Mat.3:16. Jesus Christ who was born by the Holy Spirit as a son of
God received the baptism of the Holy Spirit while coming out of the water.
John’s baptism. Lk.4:1, furthered it by saying “And Jesus full of the Spirit
returned from Jordan and was led by Spirit in to the wilderness”. Therefore, if
Jesus Christ our Lord needed the baptism of the Holy Spirit for His earthly
ministry, then we need it more. The Apostles had been baptized before b John in
river Jordan, yet when Jesus was praying in Gethsemane, they were sleeping and
Jesus said, ‘the Spirit indeed is willing but the flesh is weak’ Mat.26:41.
It is these same Apostles after
Pentecost that aid ‘but we will devote ourselves to prayers and the ministry of
the word.’ Acts.6:4.
Therefore, baptism of the Holy Spirit
is being immersed by the Lord Jesus the baptizer into the liquid fire of the
Holy Spirit to the point of being soaked (filled) will result in bursting out
in strange language (tongue). And from this point, if you are living a life
constantly filled with the Holy Spirit by fellowshipping with Him your
spiritual life will blossom and your walk spiritually will be easy and also
live constantly victorious life. Gal.5:16,25.
How do we
receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit?
1.
By earnestly desiring or longing for it in our hearts.
Prv.10:24; Mat.5:6
2.
By prayerfully waiting for it. Rom.8:32
3.
Faith: by believing that God will surely give you. Heb.11:6
Ways of
receiving it
1.
Through the laying of hand of a servant of God. Acts.19:6
2.
During the service as the Spirit moves. Acts.10:44
3.
While personally praying or studying the Bible or anointed
Christian materials where faith can be impacted. Act.2:1
The baptism of the Holy Spirt often
comes with the gift that are recorded in 1Cor.12:4-11.

Topic:
Inordinate affections [sexuality]
Text:
Romans.1:18-32
Introduction:
Inordinate affection is a relationship between man and other creature contrary
to the holiness and righteousness of God. it is unholy formation that commonly include
sexual act. In our society today, there has been several cases of inordinate
affections of which mast time the perpetrators go scot free. In some society in
our present day world, they see nothing wrong in committing such an act. It has
been absorbed as part of the normal morns to be used in promoting the level of
civilisation the society has become. In Bible days, places like Sodom and
Gomorrah, including the villages thereof were destroyed, consumed by fire and
brimstone. Their major sins were inordinate affections, been assimilated as
part of societal value. If God could do such a thing to them, what prevents Him
from doing more than that to this generation of ours which has started
assimilating inordinate affections as part of societal value. One of the major
reason why God destroyed the first world was their interest in having intercourse
with the fallen Angels otherwise referred to as sons of God in Genesis. In this study, I will like parents and
guardians to keep watch over their wards. There have been several reasons why people
claimed to be the reason for committing such act, although, the most common
reason ever has ever been contributed to the work of Satan. That is why am imploring
you never to allow anybody to be an instrument of the Devil to destroy you and
to take you out of the holiness of God.
Few among the causes of
inordinate affections:
1.
Corrupt mind/heart
2.
Incontinence
3.
Fetishism
4.
Poverty
5.
Bad company
6.
Lack of home training
7.
Loss of societal value and custom
8.
Lack of parental guide and uncontrolled
movement
9.
Abuse of freedom
10.
Irresponsible attitude of some so called parent
and guardians
11.
Unholy affection
12.
Immodest/indecent dressing
13.
Eagerness to satisfy sexual desire without
adequate preparation for the likely result of the act
14.
Bad governance
15.
Copycat syndrome
16.
It is an end time sign
17.
Undue familiarity with divine things
Below are among of
kinds of inordinate affections in our world which God forbids:
1.
Premarital
sex: this comprises of every sexual act occurred before one gets
married to an opposite sex partner. It is not only between a married man and an
unmarried girl or unmarried boy and a married woman or between two young adult
of opposite sex.
2.
Fornication: This is
sexual relation between two adults who a yet to be considered a couple. It can
also happen between a married man and an unmarried girl or vis-à-vis. The one
that is yet to be married in the unholy union commits fornication. It among inordinate
affection which our world promotes which it’s an abomination to God.
3.
Adultery: Voluntary
sexual relations between a married person and somebody other than his/her
spouse
4.
Incest: It is
sexual activity between two people who are considered related to have such a
relationship. Example of incest is father and daughter relationship, mother and
son relationship, uncle and cousin relationship, son-in-law and mother-in-law
relationship among others. God had started clearly He doesn’t want man to
practice it. Lev.18:6-18, 20:11, Deut.22:30, 27:20-23
5.
Bestiality: This is
sexual activity between human being and an animal. There is no reason
whatsoever that should warrant this kind of behaviour. It is a sacrilege.
Totally unacceptable. Ex.22:19; Lev.18:23
6.
Paraphilia: this is
abnormal sexual activity. It is the act of deriving sexual pleasure by
inflicting pains on another. It is a very dangerous affection.
7.
Zoophilia: this is
sexual attraction to animal which would later resulted to bestiality if it has
been carried out.
8.
Scopophilia: This is
derivation of sexual gratification from seeing the sex acts, naked bodies or
genital of other people. Maybe that was the reason why Noah cursed one of his
son.
9.
Paedophilia: This is
sexual desire for children by an adult. It is the crime of sex with a child. The
person who commits this crime is a paedophile. It is a form of child abuse. In
our world today, it is no longer sounds strange or illogical whenever people
heard of raping or gang raping, defiling and molesting a child. The perpetrators
of this act goes to the extent of committing the crime with eight days old baby
girl. This is totally nonsensical. I always imaging within my heart what could
have been the pleasure such a person would derived or what would an eight days
old baby girl do to have attracted or leads to sex. It is a forbidden practice
in the scripture.
10.
Voyeurism: This is
the practice of getting pleasure by secretly watching people who are naked or
having sex. It si forbidden to secretly watching people may be your neighbour,
in their closet, as they are having sex. Sex life should not be a thing were a
third party should relax and watch. Those who practice this act corrupt their
thought in the presence of God. parents are to train up their wards well never
to engage in peeping through the door hole key to watch people secretly or
people having their bath in the open space. You should not enjoy watching other
people’s genital not to talk of secretly watching of other people sexual life.
11.
Pederasty: This is
the act of having unholy intercourse between a man and a young boy. Those who
commit this crime are called pederast. A man and a boy are of same sex. Nothing
sexual should come up between the two. If the man would have sex with the boy,
where will he insert his genital? Definitely, it’s going to be through the
anus. Anus is to pass excreta not for sex. Those who commits this act are under
God’s wrath because they have changed the law of natural use. As a young boy,
never allow anyone having sex with you in any form. The act is forbidden in the
Holy scripture.
12.
Rape: it is the
act of forcing somebody to have sex with you when they are not interested using
threat or violence. Those who commit this crime are called rapist. A legitimate
sexual practice should be an agreement between two party of opposite sex. Both
must be matured and of age. In the Bible, they were to be husband and wife. God
is against the rapist either the man one or the female rapist, because both
exist. But in our society men do engage most in the practice. I would advise
women especially the young ones to boldly come out if they have fall victim of
been raped. The law of the land is there to save them. Keeping the wound in your heart is never the
solution. Deut.22:25-27
13.
Masturbation: Masturbation
is of two kinds. The first one is rubbing your genital yourself to give you
sexual pleasure; while the second one is when someone gives you sexual pleasure
by rubbing your genital. Most boys and girls under teens age, the adolescents,
the unmarried and even the married fall victim of this act. Do you know that as
a young adult, you are not allowed to stimulate yourself? This is one of the
reasons why cases of rape are rampant in our society today. Parents should
please inform their children never to engage in the act. Some have been doing
it secretly without knowing what they do really. God is not in any way in
support of masturbation because of what it could possibly leads to in the near
future. Sex is programed by God for marriage. Not until when as a girl child
you touch or stimulate your libido. If you are of age, stop been burn inwardly.
Get married. Never let your action cause you to miss rapture. The other part of
this act goes to the married, I wouldn’t like to say much about it, but I would
advise each couple to seek the face of God about it whether it is good for you
to masturbate your spouse, yet I would bring this to your notice. Those who
uses tongue or mouth to leek their spouse genital should desist from the act.
It is an ungodly. {please parents, try to know what your child is doing
secretly. They must not stay too long in the bathroom}
14.
Fetishism: This is
sexual practice that involve getting pleasure from a particular object. An
example of this is the use of sex toy and the like. Sexual relation is to be
between two animate object of the same species. A female goat and a male goat, a female dog
and a male dog, a man and a woman. It should never be between animate and
inanimate. Those who indulge in this crime would definitely face the anger of
God.
15.
Exhibitionism: A
psychological disorder that makes somebody wants to show their sexual organs in
public. This is not talking about madness but loss of societal norm. on the
social media today, it is not farfetched to see people displaying their
genital. This act is mostly common with women, young ladies in particular. They
do is to attract men to get been slept with. They are sexual attention seekers.
This act is never a programme of God for man. Satan gave it to man to make man
rude against God. not only your genital that should not be displayed
unnecessary, even your sensitive part of the body like breast, tight, abdomen,
navel, both the upper and the lower part of your buttock should not unnecessarily
be displayed. Let parents and guidance
discuss these things with their children. Nothing should be hidden. It would
help to go a long way, if well said.
16.
Nymphomania: Encarta dictionary defined it as a woman
supposed to have a compulsive desire to have sex with many different men.
Actually, not all women that have this kind of behaviour, but those who have it
should desist from it. One wife one husband says the good book.
17.
Bisexual: This is
condition of been attracted sexually to both men and women. I wonder why
someone would find it so easy to have carnal knowledge with both sexes. Sexual
activity is between two opposite sex and they should be partner not by
seduction or rape.
18.
Homosexual: This is
when a man is attracted sexually to a man like himself. It can be said to be
gay. As I have said earlier. Marriage is for two opposite sex not for people of
the same sex. This action beckoning on the anger of God upon people that
practice it.
19.
Lesbianism: This is
when a woman is sexually attracted to a woman like herself. Men’s type of this
practice is known as gay. The law of God and societal value does not in any way
in support of this inordinate affection. Sexual relation has been fixed by God.
it is only between male and female of all animals, but for man, it can only be
done when both were said to be husband and wife.
20.
Transsexual: Somebody
who has undergone treatment to change his or her anatomical sex. God created us
in His own image. You are an image of God if you find yourself been created and
endowed with either the male organ or female organ. there is no reason whatsoever
while anybody should deem it fit to change how he or she was made. It is among
the sin against the natural use. Some were created male but now as we speak,
they have surgically remove their organ and replace it with that of opposite
sex. Never should you as Christian participate in such act. You are not an
accidental creature. You are an image of God. be proud of how you were made. Rom.1:16-end
21.
Crossdressing: this is
the practice of wearing clothes usually worn by a person of the opposite sex,
especially for sexual pleasure. The Bible forbid a man or woman to put on
clothe of the opposite sex. Whatsoever we would wear, should not be the reason
why we should frustrate God’s mercy and holiness upon our live. It is against
the law of God for anybody to dress like opposite sex. Don’t think you are
wise. It is better for you to obey God’s word. Deut.22:5
22.
Seduction: It is the
cunning act of persuading somebody to have sex with you. This act is mostly
common with women. Most women can go to any length in order to catch her prey.
The judgment of God came upon the daughters of Zion for becoming seductive. 2Tim.3:6,13;
23.
Sodomy: Advance
learner’s Dictionary says a sexual act in which a man put his penis in
somebody’s especially another man’s anus. But I want us to understand that it is
more than putting penis in anus. It is sexual act that contradict the law of God
and natural use. I will advise everyone in contact of this word of life, to
please do away with any sexual action that God forbid. Gen.19:5-8, Jug.19:22;
Rom.1:24,26,27.
My prayer for everyone is that the wrath of
God will not come upon us in Jesus name. if you have not giving your life to
Jesus, this is the right time for you to do so. Accept Jesus as your Lord and
saviour today. You are blessed in the name of Jesus.
Shalom!
